Ketul & Shayna met through a mutual passion for dance that grew from childhood and blossomed through their relationship.
Shayna started dancing at a young age after attending a bollywood concert and being inspired not by the singers on stage, but by the background dancers. Since then, Shayna sought out every opportunity to dance at culture shows and eventually joined the UCI collegiate bollywood dance team, Zamana. Similar to Shayna, Ketul learned to dance from a young age and also began performing at cultural events before joining UCI Zamana. After learning and growing on the team as dancers, Shayna and Ketul became co-captains for the 2012 season. They performed across the country, winning first place at the Muqabala: NNR competition in Delaware which brought them to the national finals -- Bollywood America. At Bollywood America in Philadelphia, Shayna earned Best Female lead, commonly known as Miss Bollywood America and Zamana won Best Female Group. In addition to their time on UCI Zamana, Ketul and Shayna choreographed multiple dances each year at the annual UCI cultural show including Old School, Fusion, Hip Hop, and Bhangra.
After graduating from UCI, Shayna pursued dance more formally by working for Amna Dance in Southern California. During her time at Amna Dance, Shayna taught various classes weekly to both kids and adults. In addition, she conducted various private sessions where she would choreograph and teach dances specially tailored to her clients. Shayna has also been featured on the popular TV show New Girl where she appeared as a dancer in season 5 episode 1.
Despite their respective careers, Ketul and Shayna’s love for dance and their desire to share that love with others has never diminished. While working and attending graduate school, Ketul and Shayna continued to choreograph and teach dances for several weddings before officially launching ShaKe Dance on their wedding anniversary (4/29/2021).
